Demand Gen Comes to Google Maps: Discovery Now Has a Physical Address

Selectable Maps inventory connects visual campaigns with Browse, Directions, and place-detail moments close to a store visit.

Maps inventory can connect discovery with store visits, but success requires accurate locations, local creative, channel controls, offline measurement, and incrementality tests—not pin clicks alone.

Google has made Maps selectable inventory within Demand Gen. Advertisers can reach people in Browse, Directions, and Entity or Place Details experiences using formats such as Promoted Pins. Channel controls allow a brand to opt in or out rather than accepting Maps as invisible campaign expansion.

The context is powerful. Someone asking for directions or exploring nearby places may be much closer to action than somebody watching from the sofa. Yet proximity is not permission to be irrelevant. A beautiful restaurant ad is less charming when the branch closed last month and the map sends a hungry family to meet a padlock.

Keep Business Profiles, addresses, opening hours, phone numbers, categories, accessibility, menus, inventory, and landing pages current. Use creative that reflects the location and immediate reason to visit. Separate campaigns by region or store type when offers, language, and availability differ.

Define useful conversion signals: directions, calls, bookings, store visits, loyalty activity, and verified sales. Control radius and exclusions to avoid paying for impossible journeys. Check whether the visual tells a driver or walker something actionable at a glance; nobody wants to read a strategic manifesto at the next turn.
