Meridian Connects MMM, Attribution, and Geo Experiments

Google’s measurement stack aims to reconcile planning, in-flight optimization, and causal evidence across Google and third-party media.

Use Meridian to triangulate evidence rather than manufacture one perfect number. Preserve raw inputs, document assumptions, audit open-source methods, and distinguish modeled attribution from experimentally observed incrementality.

Marketing mix modeling estimates broad channel contribution, multi-touch attribution distributes credit across observed journeys, and incrementality tests ask what happened because media ran. Teams often receive three answers and spend the next meeting debating which spreadsheet has seniority.

Google’s Meridian-powered Analytics tools aim to harmonize these views. Analytics 360 adds scenario planning, enhanced attribution can include third-party impressions from Meta, TikTok, Snap, Pinterest, and others, and incremental-conversion reporting brings methods into a shared ROI view. Integration can reduce silos, but a common interface does not erase each method’s assumptions.

Meridian GeoX is an open-source, publisher-agnostic solution for isolating incremental media impact through geographic tests. It supports multiple treatment cells against a shared control and offers designs such as holdback, go dark, and heavy up. Time-based regression and stratified sampling seek stronger statistical power with practical budgets.

Credibility still depends on comparable regions, contamination control, stable measurement, sufficient duration, and predeclared decisions. Inspect code and methodology, but do not confuse ‘open source’ with ‘automatically correct.’ A transparent recipe helps; someone still needs to check whether the ingredients came from the same kitchen.
